Do Your Research Before Buying - Split Unit Air Conditioner Review

By Gabriel Flores

I'm glad I bought this. I've used tiny portable fans all my life - I've tried all types and brands ranging from the $5 cheap plastic fans from to the $30 Brookstone fans.

Not too bad for a hand held little unit! I bought this for my trip to Miami and I love it. The standard is less than 2. This product is a nice surprise. I've never seen anything like it before BUT nor is it really a new invention. If you are used to living in hot environments, this is just a good-to-have. We share this amongst the family and my mom who is going through menopause loves it. The fan does its job, but like in the insert it is labeled, in humid weather it will not cool you down. The little breeze effect may help you to cool down.

The handy cooler is much better because it's automatic (no more pumping the water bottle) and the cooling effect is great. It's not the best when it comes to sharing it, but it really does work having it right next to your neck. I can also pick it up and hold it close to my face when I need a rapid cool off. This product is brilliant! The whirring noise level isn't bad but hardly discrete either. The $50 price is definitely too high for a product like this. I was pleasantly surprised at the effectiveness of the Handy Cooler. I suffer from Hyperhydrotosis (excessive sweating) and this immediately helps me cool down and stop sweating. All in all, this is a good product if you need something that keeps you cool! I'm getting to age where I just can't bear summer and I NEED a personal fan. At least add in an AC adapter and an extra sponge or two if you're going to charge that high a price. A $25 price point would've been more reasonable.

I needed a fan for my college dorm. I saw this in the tech review mag last year and thought I'd give it a shot and bought it.

It's much more convenient than the gigantic squirt bottles with fans on them you can get at other places. The misting needs to be manually 'pumped' to cool, whilst the handy cooler is really a battery cooler and you can just leave it on without worrying about it.

It's best for when you're standing still. I was disappointed to hear its effectiveness diminishes in hot humid conditions. The problems were as follows. As a 77 year old woman, the item was too heavy and caused pain to my hand when I held it.
