Save Your Cash - Walk Behind Lawn Edger Critique

By Taylor Phillips

I highly recommend the B&D Edge Hog. It's easy to use.

It tends to pass thru thick clumps of grass instead of cutting thru them. I find I have to pull the cut grass after I pass thru. If you try and use it after watering your lawn or after a rain mud will clump inside the edger and clog it up. I have also found the first edge of the season, or the first time you use it if you haven't ever edged your lawn, can be challenging for you and the edger.

Or I could mail it to the service center at my expense. So make sure your willing to drive or sacrifice the warranty. In addition, ergonomics really suck on the new edger, given the cheap wheel and limited space between the blade guard and blade itself. My old edger would edge through thick, moist grass and dirt (such as would be expected a day after rain, for example).

The unit works fine and it has more power than my previous unit. I look forward to many years of service out of the LE750.

Lightweight monster with plenty of power. A breeze to clean. Didn't really know what I was doing, though I got the hang of it in the end. I read the instructions but didn't do it for about a month after that. The real test will be how it is working 5 years from now. The Black & Decker LE750 is a very nice machine. Our grass was pretty thick for the initial job and it handled it without and huge hassles. It was much nicer the second time around.

Unfortunately, after thirty years away from yard work, I had to start caring for my own lawn. I spent last summer, trying to figure out how to use a weed eater to edge my lawn. You can trust the reviews for this product; it's very easy to use and works very well. It's not underpowered at all and cut through 3 inches of grass during my use. It removed more grass and soil, which we swept away from the curb edge. Then we lowered the depth to 1" again, and with the edge guide still retracted, we placed it with the wheels on the curb side, and carefully avoiding the curb edge ran it along the edge. This might have something to do with me having the handle fully extended due to my height. It's something the B&D engineers may want to look at when they redesign it in the future.

I look forward to many years of happy edging and highly recommend this product! I had purchased one of these almost 30 years ago.
